What to do when testing LED energy-saving lamps

LED lamps are composed of LED modules, lamp holders, built-in drivers, heat sinks and lampshades, so they need to be tested and evaluated from the aspects of LED lamp safety performance and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Ordinary self-ballasted LED lamps refer to lighting equipment that has a lamp holder that meets the requirements of IEC 60061-1, contains LED light sources and components required to maintain a stable burning point, and is integrated into one. Its power must be kept below 60W; the voltage must be kept between greater than 50V and less than or equal to 250V; the lamp holder must meet the requirements of IEC 60061-1.

1: Drop test, the product must simulate the drop situation that may occur during actual use for drop test. The product must fall from a height of 0.91 meters onto a hardwood board, and the product shell must not break, exposing the dangerous live parts inside. The transparent shell material must meet the electrical strength requirements. According to the standard requirements, based on the North American voltage of 120 volts, the internal high-voltage live parts and the shell (covered with metal foil for testing) must be able to withstand the electrical strength test of 1240 volts AC. 2: LED energy-saving lamps can be made into various shapes, such as spherical straight tubes. Halimbawa, the straight tube LED fluorescent lamp has the same appearance as ordinary fluorescent tubes, and the power module and light-emitting diodes are wrapped in a fluorescent tube-shaped transparent PC polymer shell. The product shell must reach V-1 level, and its thickness must be greater than or equal to the thickness required by V-1 grade raw materials. The fire rating and thickness requirements can be found on the UL yellow card of the raw materials. In order to ensure the brightness of LED energy-saving lamps, many manufacturers often make the transparent polymer shell very thin, which requires inspection engineers to pay attention to ensure that the material meets the thickness required by the fire rating.

3: The power module is an important part of the LED energy-saving lamp. The power module mainly adopts switching power supply technology. Depending on the type of power module, different standards can be considered for testing and certification. If the power module is a Class II power supply, UL1310 can be used for testing. Class II power supply is a power supply using an isolation transformer, with an output voltage less than 60VDC and a current less than 150/Vmax. Most LED energy-saving lamps have non-isolated power modules inside, and the DC output voltage of the power supply is also greater than 60 volts, so the UL1310 standard is not applicable. UL1012 is applicable to waterproof LED street lamp heads and square garden street lamps.

4: Product interchangeability test: When faulty lamps such as LEDs appear, we need to replace them. To ensure that the product can be used with the original lamp head, the lamp should use the lamp head specified in IEC 60061-1 and the gauge specified in IEC 60061-3. The structural design of the lamp should ensure that when the lamp is installed in a lamp holder that complies with the lamp holder data sheet without an auxiliary shell, the metal parts inside the lamp holder or the lamp body, the external metal parts with basic insulation, and the live metal parts cannot be touched. Insulation resistance and electrical strength are basic indicators of LED lamp materials and internal insulation. The standard requires that the insulation resistance between the current-carrying metal parts of the lamp holder and the easily accessible parts of the lamp should be no less than 4MΩ, and flashover or breakdown is not allowed during the electrical strength test (HV lamp holder: 4 000V; BV lamp holder: 2U+1 000V).
